So this is the first entry from your new Commodore, at the AGM yesterday the votes went through for all the directors including myself, It was a relatively long AGM, although according to past Commodores, not,by any means, the longest in the club's 79 year history! It was possibly fascinating for those that understand the detailed ins and outs of the club articles, for others it was a test of stamina of the bladder and the sense of humour - articles are an acquired taste me thinks. As much as your board would wish to talk about the positive achievements of the management team and our plans moving forward this year, it must have seemed to a first time visitor and an outsider to be more like a court hearing than an annual meeting. In fact our poor minute taker was quite shocked. Let's hear it though for the new members Mr David Whitehouse is a temporary member of the club. He knew that he could not vote but with considerable bravery and wisdom in equal amounts, he stood up towards the end of the meeting and pointed out what is thankfully obvious to new members, but which is unfortunately forgotten by those with a short memory - that the RAFYC is really a great club to be a member of and that club volunteers are indeed worth many pressed men (and woman). The result of which is that David received a well deserved round of applause! He did also mention that he is looking for a proposer and seconder, I suspect that he might by now have quite a queue! I hope that next year we can have more celebration of the fantastic work that has been done by everyone, This year the long list of achievements will soon be posted on the website, hopefully - but as I demonstrated yesterday, you never can tell with technology - can you? PS. Thanks to all the kind words delivered to the team and myself at the end of the afternoon and later in the bar for a well deserved beverage, your support is truly appreciated. You might have noticed that there were some sheets on the noticeboard seeking volunteers for the new committees, they still look a bit empty - feel free to sign up! Yours aye! Ian |
