An interesting weekend, my inaugural speech delivered at the New Members Evening and then the next day delivering a reading at the Remembrance Sunday Service at St Andrew's Church.
One of life's great opportunities, lots of support and kind appreciation from both audiences, it was deeply touching laying the wreath on behalf of the club, following the last post and the silence and a moving contrast indeed. Laughter and tears - life in all its dimensions
The new members' evening was attended by about 30 new members who were hosted by almost 70 established members who by common approval made everyone feel very welcome indeed. Its shows the club off in such a good light when members induct the neophytes in the most enjoyable way possible. I am sure that if we carry on like this we are going to have to find new and larger harbours and hostelries to host us in the summer as our little club rallies become larger and no dount we will break records for fleet sizes. |
