By Tony Fiske

Venice CityAt the end of this summer's cruise Chala and I sailed Nyord into the heart of Venice to stay for a few memorable days at the Compagnia della Vela di Venezia yacht harbour.  There are very few facilities around Venice for visiting yachts but the yacht club will sub-let berths if members are away, and if you're lucky enough to get one you have probably the best view in the city right from your own boat.

Entering Porto di Lido (the lagoon) can be tricky due to shallow water and tides.  Once inside things get worse with the complexity of channels, shallow water and most of all the volume of traffic of all shapes and sizes heading in every direction.  The whole experience, however, was one not to be missed.
